Course description:

Basic fundamental knowledge is transformed into a good understanding of “how to recognise the difference in yarn and structure”. This is particularly important for buying and sourcing materials, as it is the first step in the product development process that enables quality and cost issues to be dealt with efficiently. The facts are illustrated by current examples from the market.

• Yarn as the basis for product development in knitting
• Structures, colours and how to use them
• Machine knitting: Focus on flat and circular knitting
• Functional knitting with examples: focus on sportswear, socks and sneakers
• It's Magic: Graphene – a performance material?
• It's Magic: Dyeing processes, overview of dyes related to knitwear and fitting issues
• It's Magic: Washing techniques – garment dye vs. garment wash – what is useful for well-fitted knitwear garments?
